The Maestrazgo hoards a rich architectonic and artistic patrimony. Although the first prehistoric cultural manifestations are placed around the Levantine rock art, in the Middle Ages when the Maestrazgo forges its historical personality as today we know it. Its vast historical legacy is materialized in a series of architectonic elements of great interest from the patrimonial point of view, whose better exponent is the ten existing Historical Sets.
The presence of the man in valleys and mountain ranges the Maestrazgo goes back to prehistory. The first tracks of human settlement and the older cultural manifestations can be dated from the Paleolithic one.
They emphasize CAVE PAINTINGS of the zone of Ladru±¡n and Castellote, near the Guadalope River, where has been a series of painted coats corresponding to the denominated Levantine rock art, where human figures in red and ocher colors imagine to a lesser extent mainly animal and: The coat of the Sandy ground of the Fonseca, the Torico and opened frieze of the Pudial, the coat of Been vacant and the coat of the Goalkeeper. In the zone of the Maestrazgo stop, in Mosqueruela the coat of the Precipice of Gisbert has been documented also as Levantine rock art.
TIME IBERA AND ROMAN
Of time bera deserves to be outstanding the towns of Damaniu, in Hinojosa of
Jarque, and the deposit of the Cabezo of the Guard, in Alcorisa, that counts on the condition of Bien de Inter©s Cultural and where valuable findings come from ceramics bera decorated, product of the great activity potter who concentrated herself in this zone.
Of the Hispanic-Roman period the Roman funeral tablets deserve special mention of the Hermitage of Our Lady of the Cid, in Iglesuela of the Cid, where the base of a Roman mausoleum of important proportions is conserved, with inscriptions and diverse decorative elements.
URBAN AND RELIGIOUS ARCHITECTURE
